Just For Fun: Belle The Book Princess

"Here's where she meets prince charming, but she won't discover that til chapter three."

Today we're taking a look at Disney princess Belle, who is (aside from being the best princess) the indisputable Princess of Books.

In the opening scene Belle describes her most read book, "It's my favourite - far off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise!" Oh our dear Belle, little did she know that she would soon be living that story!
As for her townspeople, they simply can't understand this 'strange' girl in their midst. They exclaim, "With a dreamy far off look and her nose stuck in a book!" It is clear to viewers that Belle has expanded the possibilities of her World beyond that of her small, predictable town and we love that Disney promoted that message to millions of young girls. Certainly, for some people there is nothing wrong with living in a small monotonous town but for readers there will always be the possibility of more. In this film Disney encouraged girls to expand their horizons, to educate themselves and to look further.
Gaston, was desperate to marry Belle. He was (supposedly) the most attractive and desirable man in the village - but he only desired Belle for her beauty, not for her mind. Thankfully, Belle knew better than to settle for a moron like Gaston - who clearly doesn't even know how to read...
The Beast, was far more cultured than Gaston and all of those other Disney princes, he knew the way to a girls heart - flowers? chocolates? shoes? (we're looking at you Cinderella) NO! He gave a Belle a whole library! Just look at his face as he brought her in, he knew the way to Belle's heart.
Thanks for being the Book Princess Belle, you'll always be our favourite. Do you agree - or do you favour another princess? Tell us why in the comments!
