MAJOR AWW: Books, Cats and Children

Yesterday I came across a post on Reddit that gave me that fuzzy feeling and I just had to find out a little more and share it with you on Leabhar Love.

In Pennsylvania there is an animal shelter called, The Animal Rescue League of Berks County, the shelter runs an unusual programme called 'Book Buddies' for their homeless cats. The programme encourages children to come in and read to the cats - who find the company and rhythmic sound of the reading extremely comforting.

The children benefit from building up 'rewards tickets' every visit and improving their reading skills but I imagine the real reward comes from having a special animal friend. Cats can be extremely soothing and for children who don't or can't have pets this programme is the next best thing.

In the picture shared on Reddit a young boy called Colby is reading "I will love you forever" by Robert Munsch to his kitty friend. Look at them. This photo gets me right in the heart, I just have to imagine that Colby adopted his cat friend and they lived happily ever after!

Either way this a fantastic programme and I've included some more images from the shelter's facebook page below. Enjoy!

Thank you to dagorlad on Reddit for sharing!
